Living in San Carlos

San Carlos is nicknamed “The City of Good Living,” and for good reason. The town is nestled between San Francisco and San Jose, in the heart of the Peninsula. Bordered by Belmont to the north and Redwood City to the south, San Carlos sits at the base of the hills, with picturesque homes tucked into gently rolling canyons. The town boasts many large parks, such as Burton, Eaton, Big Canyon, Crestview, and half a dozen others dotted throughout the city. Modest homes in a wide variety of different periods and styles make this primarily-residential town of 30,000 a particularly idyllic up-and-coming real estate opportunity.

Laurel Street, the town’s main retail drag, offers an eclectic selection of bars, restaurants, and retail stores, from the most inventive local chefs to fine purveyors of classic Italian, American, Asian, and other cuisine. You’ll soon develop quirky favorites like The Olive Crush, Diddams, and The Refuge as you spend time browsing Laurel Street. The Hiller Aviation Museum, the San Carlos Airport, and the San Carlos History Museum round out the cultural offerings of the city.

San Carlos also serves as host for the longest running PTA fundraiser in the US, the annual Chickens’ Ball, which will celebrate its 78th season in 2018. Residents of San Carlos have access to the public schools in the distinguished Sequoia Union District, including schools in both Redwood City and Belmont. Various events including farmers’ markets and seasonal and holiday events are hosted throughout the year, primarily on Laurel Street.
